Conrad Andy Howell is an educator, author and businessman, Andy's real interests and deep seated involvement are in the education of our youth. In order to promote education and scholarship in the urban and under-serviced areas in the United States, he has founded "Sidewalk University". A "new concept" for helping young people gains access to higher education.
Howell received the President's Volunteer Service Award from the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation, on behalf of President Barack Obama, on November 28, 2012. The award was presented to Andy for his commitment to strengthening our nation and for making a difference through volunteer service.
Andy received a United States Senate Proclamation from New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez, on behalf of the people of the State of New Jersey, recognizing him for his commitment to helping empower students and his pledge to create real and powerful change in our community, on March 31, 2007
Andy was awarded the 2005 Information Services Jim Casey (Founder of United Parcel Service (UPS)) Community Service Award. The award is presented to an individual who has performed outstanding volunteer service in his/her community.
Honorable Conrad Andy Howell was declared an "Honorary Citizen" of Jersey City, New Jersey on November 1, 2002 by Mayor Glenn D. Cunningham for his contributions to the betterment of the cities of Jersey City, New Jersey and Saint John's, Antigua and Barbuda.
July 27, 2002 Conrad Andy Howell was the Grand Marshal of the Jersey City West Indian, Caribbean and American Carnival. The carnival association honored Grand Marshal Conrad Andy Howell for providing scholarships to individuals that are pursuing a post-secondary education and his continual dedication to educating our youths by developing more education programs.
Andy is the founder of the RDS Investment Club, which was featured in the June 2000 edition of Black Enterprise Magazine. He formed the investment club to teach individuals how to invest in the stock market.
Professor Howell is the co-author of Sidewalk University Economic Empowerment. The book addresses financial illiteracy and the need to increase the amount of children acquiring college degrees.
Andy has made a tremendous commitment to serving the needs of others through volunteerism. He serves on the New Hope ETC Board, Jersey City, Chairman of Antigua and Barbuda Associations United, and Chairman of the Jersey City Board of Education National Academy Foundation (NAF) Advisory Board.
Past volunteer affiliations include President of Dollars for Scholars of Northern New Jersey; Urban League of Hudson County, New Jersey; Consortium for Pre-College Education in Greater Newark Advisory Board, New Jersey; Monroe College School of Information Technology Advisory Board, New York;
Conrad graduated from St. Peter's University in 1987 earning a BS degree in Mathematics and Computer Science. While attending St. Peter's, "Andy" was elected President of the Black Action Committee and was a Student Counsel Senator representing the class of 1987.
Andy Howell was born in Antigua, his parents are Conrad Howell from English Harbour and Bernadine “Cutie” Joseph from Liberta Village. He is married to Lisa Susan Gaffin-Howell, the couple has three children, Gabrielle, Conrad, and Danielle.
